Blessing the Children

The church's desire to help the children in poverty in our community has culminated in a new ministry which has been named Blessing the Children Ministry. The initial emphasis of this ministry is with the goal to help break the cycle of generational poverty by working with the administration and children at a local elementary school.  Our first project was to collect weather appropriate clothing for those children who might not have warm clothes for the winter or who may need a change of clothes during the school day. There are plans to help with buying shoes for the children, lice kits, and haircuts in the spring.  If you would like to help with or donate to this ministry, please contact the church office or give from the church's donation page.

Piecemakers

Picture3

Piecemakers are an outreach ministry of Vinita First UMC.  Piecemakers are part of the United Methodist Women to provide quilts for donation. The group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. All women are
welcome and sewing ability is not a requirement. You are invited to come for fellowship as you are able, and to enjoy the camaraderie.  You may assist with the construction of quilts by choosing patterns, cutting, ironing, tieing, sewing or providing encouragement--all are welcome. The quilts are given to the girls and boys homes, shut-ins, new babies in the congregation, graduating seniors, and fire victims.  We also make pillowcases for children going to St. Jude Hospital.  Of course, every meeting is followed by lunch at a local restaurant.

Labor for our Neighbor

Once a year, on Labor Day Sunday, the church leaves the building on Sunday morning. Meeting early for breakfast and a devotional, we leave to work in the community.  We have picked up trash, helped with yard work for folks who need it, and pack new student and health kits for missions. There is something for everyone to do, so join us as we go into the community to show "church can be anywhere."

In the event we have to cancel church because of snow or ice, we will meet at the church to shovel walks and driveways for others.

Labor for our Neighbor is one of the many ways we show the love of Christ in our community, and seek to be the body of Christ in the world.

Missions

From responding to the Oklahoma wildfires and tornadoes, to going to other countries in mission, there are opportunities to serve God in ways to meet very real needs in the world.

In the event of natural disaster in Oklahoma, such as the recent tornadoes, the Conference Disaster Response Office will put out a call for volunteers.  These efforts are coordinated with the churches in the damaged areas.  If you are interested in assisting, please contact the church office.  Financial donations are often the best way to help in the short term.
